    Just took a pair of performer rpm heads to my machiist , guide were oversized by .003 , decks measure 80 on profilometer , and .005 runout on several seats. Don't even ask me about my 440 source stroker crank for our 383 block ; the mains were .0005 under factory specs for a stock crank giving us .005 clearance. At thiis time .001 undersize is not availble to tighten it up. I get this answer " We grind them that way so people don't end up with a tight clearance" so just throw the numbers out the window and do whatever you like. It always the customers problem not the supplier.

    This is the 3rd time I have watched this clip. I just got some CHI 4Vs and go Clevland. That is all Ozzy had for years. Build 'em so they don't blow up, and Bob's your Uncle! The engines with 2v opens but these, these are newish!

    Imagine if Edelbrock made an SBC/BBC 4500 intake based on the Performer RPM but with longer runners. Max torque at 3500-5500 for a boat. No hood to worry about!

    even the partial dimpling was excessive. try : only dimple the middle 1/5 th of the length. you gain in the mid valve lift, and not loose on the full lift.

    It was 8 or 9 years ago I was looking for heads and I found some and bought them from summit racing it said from dyno numbers I read I never built engine or went to dyno but numbers I read the summit heads are supposed to have 30 more hp than a 365 hp double hump head. I bought both cylinder heads brand new for 700 that's about what getting g a pair worked would cost. They come with 2.02 1.6 valves. That's not bad deal for engine with over 400 hp.

      No it’s a time thing. I don’t want to take a set of heads off the engine while it’s on the dyno then spend an hour changing springs for each set of heads I test. Especially when it’s $100 an hour for dyno time.

    You’re supposed to be paying extra for brand name heads like this so you can truly bolt them on and go. Tight guides, wavy mounting surface, and shrouded valves means Edelbrock quality has tanked. It seems like right after Vic passed away they went and DOUBLED most of their prices. Edelbrock heads are around $2000 and up and if I can get CNC AFR heads for similar money then it’s a no brainer. I haven’t read good things about Edelbrock’s budget head.

    I thought that the Vortec head would be a fad thing considering all the better heads available nearly thirty years later. If only GM had come up with the Vortec design twenty five years earlier!

Some dude managed to set his RV on fire while it was parked right next to my freshly rebuild 98 Club Wagon. Don´t be discouraged by minor setbacks, life is good ! RIP dyno mule legend !

    I think car craft did a 355 with these perf RPM AG, 250-260 550+ lift solid FT, lots of comp. They got 530hp out of it. Thanks for sharing Eric always enjoy the tech!🤘

    I just had a question it just popped in my head what if you habe a head with terrible low lift flow and amazing high lift flow vs a head with amazing low lift flow but terrible high lift flows which one do you perfer if that is ever a case

    ran these heads forever! had them in 4 different rides and they came off a boat motor that had the edelbrock 383 motor

    ran 6.48 @ 105 mph with these heads with vortec supervictor intake with comp hyd. roller on a 383 with 11 to 1 compression @ 2975 race weight. put motor in buddies camaro and went 6.20s

    Years ago I purchased a couple of Edelbrock heads and one of the heads had a differant spring compaired to all of the other. It was a thinner spring and if I didn't catch it, it would have destroyed my engine. Won't buy Edelbrock, I stick with TrickFlow....

      @@KingJT80 Must have been over 20 years ago, i converted my 390w to a fuel injected single plane intake and once again the TrickFlow quality was so much better. I ordered both from summit to compare and the TF was the best of the two....

    I reading about my protopline heads and had terrible low lift flows which I remember you told me that our first call when I was trying to get a set at the time and now I did but when I saw the low lift number that was really low and since you said chamber on that head and I knew back cut doesn't help I went dam no wonder protoplines could of maybe had that problem by the way there still sitting in my garage just had no money yet

    Oh dang now I see why 2 reasons what's caused really bad low lift flows but my question is what let's say you had a cutter that doesn't bring out the chamber wall and you had the port the chamber out to unshroud the valve how far is it supposed to be pushed out without taking away to much

    It would have been nice if all vortec and later heads were dual pattern. GM had to have known that folks would want to use them with early manifolds. Let alone edelbrock.

      I think part of the problem is that the ports don't match up using a TPI or TBI manifold on vortec heads. The manifold doesn't cover the ports completely introducing a wicked vacuum leak. So I have read. I have never seen it my self.

      ​@@KingJT80 Vortec pattern didn't show up til 96. Before that was TBI which is backward compatible with TPI and before. You're thinking of the one peiece rear main seal in 86, they heads were still compatible.

      The reason why he doesn't port cast iron is because compare to aluminum head takes 40 hours to port while iron is 80 hours and it wears out your tools much fast and have to charge the customer basically double the price and if you poke a hole in a iron head you gotta replace the head it can't be fixed while aluminum it can. So I completely understand why he doesn't port cast iron do I wish yes because I have a set that needs work but another thing to most other porters don't port cast iron either so it's not just Eric it's most other porters don't port cast iron either
